Walmart’s ad promoting its Black Friday sale brings together three of the four stars of Mean Girls, with Amanda Seyfried, Lindsay Lohan and Lacey Chabert reprising their iconic characters from the movie. I’m dressed up.
The show, released today, featured the trio as adult versions of the high school students they played in the 2004 film directed by Mark Waters and co-written by Tina Fey.
On the spot, Chabert’s Gretchen is still trying to make “fetch” happen, except this time as the mother of a high school student (spoiler: they haven’t accepted it yet), while Seyfried’s Karen Smith is still The fact that I’m a news reporter trying to make it. Lohan’s Cady, who narrates the ad as in the movie, currently works as a career guidance counselor at a high school.
Rachel McAdams, who played Mean Girls leader Regina in the film, is not seen in the nearly two-minute ad.
The film earned Fey and co-writer Rosiland Wiseman a WGA Award nomination for the film adaptation of Wiseman’s nonfiction book. Queen Bee and Wannabe: Help your daughter survive cliques, gossip, boyfriends, and the new reality of the girl’s world.
The IP was later turned into a musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2018. The production earned her 12 Tony Award nominations, more than 800 performances, and is currently touring nationally.
