LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man is accused of shooting the father of his girlfriend’s child in a Walmart parking lot on Halloween, according to an arrest report.
Elante Hines, 31, is charged with child abuse, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, records show.
Just before 3 p.m. on Oct. 31, officers responded to a call of a shooting at the Walmart at Charleston Boulevard and Decatur Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they met a man who said he had gone to Walmart, during which time he saw the mother of his children, her four children (two of them his own), and another man, later identified as Hines. I saw a man.
The man told police he entered the store, saw the girls, picked up one of them and began talking to the mother. The victim noticed Hines, but said he didn’t pay much attention to her, according to the arrest report.
While they were talking, Hines went outside and came back. The report said the victims said there was no argument and that neither of them felt “disrespected.”
Video surveillance showed that as Hines left the store, he went to a black Dodge Charge and grabbed something from it. After Hines returned, the victim heard her telling the mother of her children, “I want you to let me go outside and see what happens,” police said.
Police said surveillance showed Hines had a gun in his waistband when he returned to the store.
When everyone got outside, the victim put her daughter down. He then saw Hines pull out a gun and fire.
Hines then got into his Dodge Charger and drove away with the children and their mother.
During a records search, detectives discovered that Hines was a suspect in another attempted murder case and that there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Police sorted through photos and the victim positively identified Hines as the suspect.
Around 10 a.m. on Nov. 2, officers took Hines into custody at a friend’s home.
Hines was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail. He was scheduled to appear in court on November 21st.
