Walmart is still trying to make “fetch” a reality.
The giant retailer is hoping to draw new attention to its Black Friday products by promoting advertising around the annual holiday shopping event. To draw attention to its new offers and lower prices, Walmart will release a series of commercials starring the cast of the 2004 film “Mean Girls” again, but now as adults.
Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried are among the cast returning to the film. All are depicted as adults, some with a proliferation of “mean girls” of their own.
“Walmart is well known for Black Friday, and we have no intention of losing that positioning,” said Courtney Carlson, Walmart’s senior vice president of marketing, adding that the new commercial will be “can’t miss” across both traditional advertising channels and social media. ” he pointed out. In recent years, Walmart has sought to expand the concept of “Black Friday,” the one-day retail rush that occurs the day after Thanksgiving, into the broader pre-holiday season. Many of the sales and bargains will be published online at the beginning of the week
The ad will start on Wednesday (the day the Plastics from “Mean Girls” wore pink), and a new version will appear every Wednesday after that. Each week, a different cast will appear in ads and social posts. Walmart is giving customers an early start to their holiday shopping by offering great deals and prices ahead of the actual Black Friday scheduled for November 24th and Cyber Monday scheduled for November 27th. I think I want people to pay attention to me.
“I think our fans are really excited to see us after all these years. I know they’re looking forward to seeing what we’ve been up to.” , said actor Daniel Franzese, who brought back his character Damian Leigh for the campaign.
Other actors were excited about the prospect of a cast reunion. “It was so great to be together again after so many years. It was fun catching up with everyone,” says Lohan. “It was so much fun to spend the day with Amanda and Lindsey. It was so fun to reminisce and spend time with them again after all these years,” says Chabert.
The major retail chain has adopted a similar strategy in 2022. In a series of commercials timed for Black Friday, Walmart is portraying the 1999 Mike Judge satire “Office Space” with actor Gary Cole, who played notorious corporate executive Bill Lamberg, and rebellious tech worker Sameer. -Ajay Naidu played Nagina Najjar.
The company faced challenges in recent weeks after photos of “Mean Girls” cast members were leaked on the web. Many who saw this believed they had gotten a deliberately released photo that could be part of a Super Bowl commercial. But Walmart’s Carlson said the photo was “legally leaked” and not intentionally. “We’ve been very quiet,” she says, to avoid stirring up interest ahead of the campaign’s debut.
