The Palestine Public Library is offering special events and activities this month in addition to its regular, robust program schedule. Many local schools are closed for Thanksgiving week, so many offer activities for kids like library game days, magic shows, and live story performances.
Storyteller Bernadette Nason will perform “A Christmas Carol” in “The Magic of Reading” show on Friday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
The reading event begins at City Hall and continues to the Carnegie Library building, where guests can enjoy hot beverages and snacks and tour the building until 7:30 p.m.
Three game days featuring table games, treasure hunts, chess, Lego and more will also be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 10am to 5pm and Wednesday, November 22nd from 10am to 1pm be done.
Regular programs that will continue in November include a sewing group known as Stitched With Love, which meets Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in the Redlands Annex. Dungeons and Dragons will be featured on Teen Night on Thursdays at 5:30pm at the same location.
Storytime continues every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and is enriched by the library’s month-long Dinovember theme.
“Come to the Palestine Public Library in November and learn about dinosaurs,” said Library Director Ana Sanchez.
There will also be a book discussion for adults on Thursday, November 30th from 6pm.
Sanchez said Game Day will be back this year because of its popularity during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday.
“Last year’s event had such a great turnout that we would like to do it again at a new location,” Sanchez said.
The library moved from Palestine Mall to the Carnegie Library, 502 N. Queen St., earlier this year.
The library will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m., and will be closed all day on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from Nov. 23 to Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving.
Starting next week, normal opening hours will resume, with the library open Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Masu.
