LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Last May, the Kumon Math and Reading Center celebrated its grand opening in the Newburgh neighborhood. The center has partnered with the Louisville Urban League and now Jefferson County Public Schools to help more students reach their learning goals.
“It's not about the number of students we've been able to mentor, it's about the impact we've had,” said Aisha Hayes Taylor, an instructor at the center, whose Kumon center is one of the fastest growing in North America.
She and her team were invited to Texas to share their experiences at Kumon’s North American Leadership Conference.
Although the Kumon method of learning is effective, she says what helps children the most is people who support them.
“It's not just a system, it's the people that we have in place to deliver the system — instructors and staff that love kids and want them to succeed regardless of their socioeconomic background or what they look like,” Hayes-Taylor said.
And now Hayes-Taylor is expanding his services to several Jefferson County public schools, including Perry, Engelhard and Cochran elementary schools.
“Bring this system to kids who may not have transportation to get to our centers or other centers in Kentucky, so now we're going to them,” Hayes-Taylor said.
I hope to contribute to the growth of even more students.
