McKinney, Texas — McKinney Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny McGowan as the district's senior director of elementary teaching and learning. McGowan brings 19 years of education experience, including 10 years in administrative roles, to her new position. Since arriving at MISD in 2022, she has served as the district's director of professional learning.
Prior to joining MISD, McGowan spent the early part of her career as an elementary teacher and curriculum designer, serving in leadership roles as a literacy specialist and instructional coach. She transitioned into campus administration as an assistant principal, where she played a key role in opening a new elementary campus, and later served as principal of a Title I elementary school.
In her role as MISD Professional Learning Director, McGowan has overseen professional learning for all MISD staff, the PK-12 Instructional Coach Program, PK-12 MTSS district processes and procedures, and summer school.
She is a member of Superintendent Shawn Pratt’s Executive Leadership Team, a member of the Teaching and Learning Leadership Team, and a member of various committees across the district. In early August of this year, she led the successful launch of “New to MISD” professional learning, a district-wide initiative for all new teachers, as part of the district’s strategic plan.
Mr. McGowan holds a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
For the past 19 years, McGowan and her husband, Mikie, have lived in McKinney and are the proud parents of a daughter who is an elementary school student at MISD.
“Teaching and learning are at the heart of every school organization, and I believe the passion students have for learning across grade levels ignites in elementary classrooms,” said McGowan. “As a mother of a MISD student and an educator, I have witnessed all stakeholders give their all to fulfill our mission of reaching every student every day. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the leader of the Teaching and Learning department supporting this important effort across all of our elementary campuses to make this mission not just a hope but a reality.”
