January 2024 begins with an exciting adult event at Bethel Public Library (189 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT 06801).
Thursday, Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m., starting with “Scams and More Scams: Expert Tips on How to Avoid Them.” Members of the Bethel Police Department Detective Bureau discuss how to spot a scam. How can I avoid them? And what should you do if you get scammed? Scams have been in the news lately, and this story keeps us on guard.
Next time on Thursday, January 11th at 6:30pm, popular presenter Maria Xavier will be back to talk about ‘Putting your retirement plans into action’.
Retirement means different things to different people. Maybe you want to travel, volunteer, start your own business, or go back to school. Whatever you decide, you need to be financially prepared. Taking advantage of an employer-sponsored retirement plan is one way you can prepare for whatever kind of retirement you have in mind. Edward Jones Financial Her advisor, Maria, enjoys teaching in libraries to spread her knowledge of how to use money as a tool to plan. Her enthusiasm and knowledge shine through in her presentations.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m., we’ll welcome town historian Patrick Wilde, who is tracking “Bethel Highways and Byways: A History of the Town’s Roads, Streets, Neighborhoods, and Forgotten Places.” . This event will focus on the origins of Bethel’s oldest roads, the early development of five different neighborhoods, and mostly forgotten local place names. Mr. Wilde, who has written several books about Bethel, hopes this presentation will jog your memory or provide new information about Bethel that you didn’t know.
The last Thursday of January (January 25th) will focus on 12 Tips to Control Anxiety. When faced with anxiety, what can you do before and during it to reduce or alleviate it and restore balance, calm, and clarity? About anxiety, how to prevent it, and when it occurs. Learn what you can do to deal with it. Our popular presenter, Dr. Wendy Hurwitz, says everyone will have access to information, tools, and techniques to help them manage anxiety, regain balance and calm, and recover. Dr. Wendy Hurwitz, a graduate of Yale School of Medicine, is a nationally recognized stress expert. Dr. Hurwitz, a former ABC News medical researcher, is an expert in his two fields of mind/body medicine and energy medicine.
