With the iOS and iPadOS 18.1 beta, the iPhone maker has begun testing its Apple Intelligence feature with registered developers, and one of the perks included is support for AI-powered notification summaries. This handy tool was limited to alerts sent from Apple's Mail and Messages apps in previous builds, but the latest iPadOS and iOS 18 beta extends these notification summaries to all apps.
The first time you update to iOS or iPadOS 18.1 Beta 3, the system will prompt you to opt in to AI Notification Summary. If you allow, Apple Intelligence will summarize notifications from apps on your allow list.
The screenshot above shows how the never-ending hassle over a stranger's iPhone has been reduced to a single sentence, albeit sent via WhatsApp, making it easier for users to decide whether the constant alerts are worth spending their valuable time on, regardless of which app they're sent from.
It's worth noting that AI notification summaries are still limited to the built-in Mail and Messages apps in macOS Sequoia 15.1 Developer Beta 3. It remains to be seen whether Apple will add support for other apps before the general public release.
Speaking of Apple Intelligence, starting with Beta 3, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS users outside the US no longer need to change their device's region to the US. 9to5Mac They point out that users will be able to enable and use Apple Intelligence as long as the language options for Siri and their device are set to US English.
Regular users can expect the stable X.1 OS update to debut sometime in October, after Apple releases the first version in around two weeks.
