In today's digital age, succeeding in college requires more than just taking notes and reading textbooks; it actually requires you to be connected to the internet. As a University of Connecticut student, having the right mobile apps installed can make a big difference in helping you take advantage of university resources, stay organized, and balance your school and social life. With the new semester starting, we've compiled a list of 10 must-have apps for University of Connecticut students, a curated collection to help Huskies thrive on and off campus.
My UConn
My UConn, the official institution app, offers many useful features for students. Students can view class schedules and grades, contact faculty and staff, view the events calendar, and set event reminders. There are also links to manage Husky One cards, dining hall menu filters and hours, SHaW resources, and an interactive campus map. My UConn also provides emergency updates and administrative communications.
Duo Mobile
All UConn students are required to use Duo for two-factor authentication (2FA). When students attempt to sign in to single sign-on resources, they will be required to verify their identity through a Duo push notification. For personal devices, students can trust a device once per month. According to UConn ITS, 2FA significantly improves personal and university data security.
Blackboard Learning
Blackboard is Husky CT's learning management system. After downloading, enter “University of Connecticut” in the school field and follow the instructions to use single sign-on. Students receive notifications each time announcements and grades are posted and can participate in class discussions. It also includes a due date tracker and course stream, but some features, such as submitting assignments and using specialized or embedded class resources, require a computer.
Passio GO!
Passio GO! is a real-time Husky Go bus tracker that includes a listing of bus stops and schedules, ETAs, and routes. It also lists Windham Regional Transit and CT Transit routes that provide connections to Williamtown, Norwich, and Hartford. Husky Go shuttles may adjust their routes depending on capacity, traffic, or large events, and Passio GO! will send push notifications of announcements and changes.
Microsoft Office 365
Did you know that all UConn students have free access to the full Microsoft Office suite? This includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote with full functionality and compatibility. As Google Suite has been discontinued for classes and on campus, we encourage you to become familiar with Office 365. Students also have access to 1 terabyte of cloud storage in OneDrive, which allows for live collaboration and sharing. As a service provided by UConn ITS, students can install Office on their personal devices, including computers, tablets, and mobile devices. The desktop version, available through your student login, can be installed on any laptop or desktop computer and includes all the features not available online.
WEPA Print
For on-campus printing, UConn uses a cloud-based service called WEPA. One of the easiest ways to print is to use the WEPA Print app. After downloading, select “University of Connecticut” from the list and follow the instructions to use single sign-on. You can easily add funds to your printing balance with Husky Bucks or electronic payment using the app. It also includes an interactive map of the closest printing stations on campus. When you're ready to print, select your file from OneDrive and hit the “Rocket Ship” tap print feature at any WEPA station.
HubSki (iOS only)
Wondering what to eat for lunch or wanting to organize your class schedule? The student-developed app HUBSKY simplifies the process by displaying what's on offer at eight campus dining halls and allows users to create a weekly plan and set reminders. The app connects to a database of official UConn resources, like course catalogs and menu listings, for an improved user interface and usability. Additionally, users can easily check if Husky CT, Student Admin, Secure Wi-Fi, and other UConn systems are offline.
UConn Huskies
Attending a prestigious sporting event is a rite of passage for UConn students. The official UConn Huskies app provides easy-to-understand event schedules, scores, live game updates and summaries. Students can create a free account with their school email address to easily claim and manage tickets and participate in Top Dogs Rewards. For students who can't attend or travel, the app also provides links to live streams and a library of on-demand game play-by-play broadcasts.
UConn Recreation
If you've ever wanted to participate in recreation and fitness on campus, the UConn Rec app is the place to be. Students can view current availability in real time, see special events and classes, and find facility policies and hours of operation. There are also resources and information about intramural and club sports and group activities. The app provides up-to-date information about UConn Rec program offerings. Students can also be notified of important announcements and cancellations.
TuneIn Radio and Podcasts
With the demands of college life, listening to music to focus, study or relax helps students relax and ultimately leads to success. TuneIn offers a wide variety of podcasts, radio stations, music genre hubs and curated content. Users can listen to local favorites like WHUS, WHKA, WECS or use the interactive explorer map to select stations around the world. A one-time purchase of $9.99 allows users to remove visual and pre-roll ads. Your favorite artists often host exclusive contests on the platform.
