Walmart shoppers are calling on others to join them in boycotting self-checkout stations.
A recent video on TikTok compared the checkout scene inside a Walmart store before and after self-checkout became a mainstream payment method.
Lindsey & Brett (@lil_coop22) posted a video on TikTok.
The video’s caption read, “Boycott self-check.”
The video shows a cart being pushed through a short line at a traditional checkout.
A man places items on a conveyor belt and is called up by a cashier.
But then the video fades into a more chaotic scene.
Shoppers can be seen standing huddled around the crowded self-checkout area.
Many people seemed to be waiting for the kiosk to open to scan their items.
This video has been viewed over 3,000 times.
The original poster wrote in a comment: “It’s becoming the norm…I refuse to participate.”
However, many people commented that they preferred self-checkout.
“I prefer self-checkout. The Karen tribe in front of me doesn’t have a cashier to abuse, so I think self-checkout is faster because you can put your own things in a bag and leave.” one person said.
The original poster replied, “It should be an option… just not the only option.”
“I love self-checkout. It’s such a good day when I don’t have to talk to a single person at Walmart,” another person commented.
The original poster again said, “It should be available to people who enjoy it…I like talking to people and I have my own job. So keep cashiers employed.” I want to have it.”
Recently, other shoppers also took to social media to share their boycott of Walmart due to the poorly maintained nature of its stores.
“I don’t want to go to Walmart anyway,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“The store is generally poorly maintained, the customer service is terrible, and self-checkout is not allowed.”
