Tracking the top streaming TV shows on all the best streaming services can feel like a full-time job. When covering streaming TV shows, already I don’t want to have a second job even though I have a full-time job. Thankfully, I have an app on my phone that’s basically my secret weapon for keeping track of everything that’s currently playing or coming soon.
That app?it is Marathon TV app. If you, like me, use Letterbox to track and review movies you’ve watched, the idea of Marathon will feel familiar. Both apps are great for easy ways to track what you’re watching, but where Letterbox is (mostly) about movies, Marathon is strictly about what you’re watching on a small screen. .
And it’s a lifesaver too. With this app, you can access it for free. iOS, android or web, Track everything you watch and want to watch, all in one place. I also provide quick reviews of episodes, seasons, and even entire TV series for those who follow me to read. I only stick to reviewing episodes, but the Marathon app lets you actually review just about anything that’s on TV.
Marathon TV app: Here’s how it works
The app is very easy to use. To create/log in to your account, Just link your Google or Apple account — Unfortunately, it is not possible to create your own login.
Once you’re there, you can look through your social media-like feed and see what people are watching and reviews of the episodes. There’s a “For You” tab where the algorithm gets reviews based on what you’re looking at, a tab that shows you what’s new from people you follow, and an “Explore” tab to find new stuff.
Speaking of Explore, there’s also a whole Explore section of the UI that you can use to find and start tracking new TV shows to watch. To find a series, check trends or search for the series by name. Clicking on a show tile will give you the option to add the series to your watchlist. Start marking the episodes you’ve watched. If you’re on a break from a series, you can also “pause” or “stop” watching the show. This will remove the show from your next feed, but keep all viewing data and reviews.
But what really makes Marathon my secret weapon is Marathon’s Up Next feature. As you follow a few shows, the next episode you need to watch will appear in your Up Next feed, and the UI (or[再生]button icon). This section has two main tabs. Watch shows you what episodes you’re currently watching, and Upcoming shows you which episodes will be released in the coming days, weeks, and months. Within Watch, you’ll find subtabs for programs you’re currently watching, paused, stopped, and haven’t started yet.
So, if you are a streaming TV geek like me, download the Marathon TV app now. That way, you no longer need spreadsheets or lists to track your views. Plus, reviewing TV shows is a much healthier way to get your social media fix than most other options.
