by Golf Week
When LIV Golf’s application for Official World Golf Ranking points was rejected, the reason cited was “private stores.” In December, the emerging circuit will take its first steps towards providing a pathway for athletes.
The inaugural LIV Golf Promotional Event (first reported by Golfweek in February) will be held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club from December 8th to 10th, with three players punching their ticket to the 2024 league. It will be done. Four rounds will be held over three days. , 36 holes on the final day. The prize money is $1.5 million, and players must pay a “nominal” entry fee (when LIV opened entries for the first event in London in 2022, “Tiger Woods” entered 216 times).
The promotional event will be held the same week as the Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed PGA Tour/LPGA team event held at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida. This week also marks the week that the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Championship will be held at Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa.
Players can qualify in the first round in several ways, but some players are exempt until the second round.
The top 20 players and ties at the end of the first day will advance to Saturday’s second round, where scores will be reset and the winning field will be joined by players who received second-round exemptions.
