Location: Starting line, corner of Fowler and Eighth streets.finish line, harrison square
The Cake Race, open to all first graders, is a half-mile race held annually before sunrise on the morning of the Homecoming football game. Whether running, jogging or walking, all participants will receive a cupcake at the end of the race, and the top male and female finishers will receive a cake and be taken to the field at halftime of the football game later that day. It will be done.
Once a recruiting tool for track and field teams, the race has evolved over the years to become one of the tech industry’s long-standing traditions. The event got its name from his 1913 event, when teachers’ wives and students’ mothers baked cakes as rewards for the winners. In 1935, it became a permanent feature of Homecoming celebrations.

Ramblin’ Wreck Parade
Date and time: Saturday, October 28th, 9am to 10am
Location: Along Fowler Street, between 8th Street and First Drive
Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, line up along the parade route (starting at McCamish Pavilion and ending across First Drive) to see the vehicles on display at the 2023 Rec Parade. The event will feature his three categories of vehicles: classic cars, fixed bodies, and contraptions.
Inspired by the wreck of a 1930 Model A Ford, restored vehicles that are more than 25 years old fall into the classic car category. The fixed-body vehicle features student-designed and constructed displays that reflect the Homecoming theme. Like traditional parade floats, these vehicles are mechanically powered or pulled by another vehicle. And, further demonstrating the ingenuity of the institute’s student body, the Contraptions category features vehicles designed and built entirely by students, with an emphasis on creativity and engineering skills.
The event began in 1929 as a race from Atlanta to Athens, but was changed in 1932 due to safety concerns. Since then, the parade has been held every year except in 1942 and 1943 due to gas shortages during World War II.
