LOUIS, Va. (CBS19 News) — Louisa County High School is introducing a new space for students that they hope will inspire them to greatness.
“It's a great place for everyone to come together and inspire each other,” Courtney Kidd said.
“This is a space that we've designed and developed to give students and teachers access to high-tech, cutting-edge technology to really bring their thoughts, ideas and creations to life,” Kenny Bowens said.
Impact Studio began when the school realized they didn't have the technology they needed for a 3D printing club and decided a change was needed.
The school invested about $65,000 into the studio and hit the ground running as soon as school ended.
“It might sound like a big number, but if everyone works as a team to get the job done, it adds up pretty quickly,” Bowens said.
The studio was their project this summer, and they say they wanted it to be ready when kids went back to school.
So they transformed a vacant office into a state-of-the-art learning space.
“It's exciting to see students come in and say, 'I never thought a space like this would exist,' 'This is amazing,' 'This technology is incredible,' 'I can't wait to build this,' those are the kinds of excited words I hear,” Bowens said.
Though Louisa County Public Schools has only been open for just over two weeks, staff and students say the space has already transformed the way they learn.
“Our high school is different and Louisa is leading the way. I never thought we'd be able to do something like this,” Kidd said.
Louisa County High School says Impact Studio is fully equipped with equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters and robots.
