The Bay Area high school basketball season gets into full swing Saturday with three major events. In addition to the girls’ Pinole Valley Tip-Off Classic, his two events for the boys are the NorCal His Tip-Off Classic at Dublin High School and his Bishop O’Dowd Thanksgiving Showcase.
The second day of the O’Dowd Showcase will feature two Southern California powers, Torrey Pines of the San Diego Section and Campbell Hall of Los Angeles, which previously boasted NBA Holiday brothers Jrue, Justin and Aaron.
Torrey Pines will play Inderkum Sacramento at 2 p.m., followed by Oakland Tech vs. Morrow Catholic Hayward (3:30 p.m.), Benicia vs. Bishop O’Dowd (5 p.m.) and Campbell Hall vs. Salesian. -The match against Richmond (6:30 p.m.) follows. . Salesian (26-9) was ranked No. 3 preseason by the Chronicle and No. 9 in California by SBLive Sports. The Pride includes All-Metro point guards Aaron Hankin-Clator, Alvin Loving and Amani Johnson, as well as 6-foot-5 son of former Oakland Tech, Cal State and NBA standout of the same name. Sophomore Leon Powe is featured.

Bishop O’Dowd, ranked No. 12 by the Chronicle, relies on seniors Leo Chapman, Samuel Chavarin and Tobias Eisien, along with junior Josh Green.
The NorCal Tip Off field features seven teams ranked by the Chronicle, including No. 1 Riordan vs. Southern California powerhouse Roosevelt Eastvale, No. 4 in the state (Riordan is No. 5) 7 teams will participate. That game tips off at 2 p.m. Another big matchup between Southern California and Southern California is Chronicle No. 5 De La Salle Concord vs. 2022 state champions, ranked No. 6 preseason in California. This is the Centennial Corona.Scheduled tip-off is 8:30 p.m.
Other games involving Metro teams: Head Royce of Oakland vs. Bellarmine (8 a.m.), Ignacio Valley-Concord vs. Lincoln Stockton (9:30 a.m.), No. 12 Dublin vs. No. 15 St. Ignatius (11 a.m.), No. 6 San Ramon Valley-Danville vs. Capital Christian-Sacramento (5:15 p.m.), No. 2 Mitty vs. No. 4 Branson-Ross (7 p.m.).
The one-day event will feature at least 11 seniors who have committed to Division I college programs, led by Centennial’s Eric Freeney (UCLA) and Carter Bryant (Arizona). The others are Roosevelt’s Darness Slater (Colorado State), Branson’s Jace Butler (Illinois), Mitty’s Gavin Lipp (San Diego) and Tyler Jones (University of California, Riverside), and Riordan’s Zion Sensley (St. Mary’s). ), Kaia Berridge (Evansville) and Geordie McKenzie. Pinole Valley will feature seven games and five Chronicle-ranked teams, culminating with a tilt between No. 2 Oakland Tech and No. 5 San Ramon Valley at 7:30 p.m. Oakland Tech, the defending Division I champion, is led by the trio of Taliyah Logwood, sophomore Terria Russell and Jay Johnson, a 6-3 wing and daughter of NFL quarterback Josh Johnson.
San Ramon Valley returns nine key players from last year’s 28-5 team, including Southern Utah signee Sierra Chambers, Cal Poly signee Avery Knapp and Sophia Bowes.
Other games include St. Mary’s-Berkeley vs. Dublin (10:30 a.m.), Pinole Valley vs. Eureka (noon), Redwood-Larkspur vs. Cornerstone Christian-Antioch (1:30 p.m.), Acarans-Lafayette vs. Antelopes (3pm). ), Bishop O’Dowd vs. McClatchy Sacramento (4:30 p.m.), Cardinal Newman vs. Santa Rosa vs. St. Mary’s Stockton (6 p.m.).
O’Dowd is ranked No. 3 by the Chronicle, Cardinal Newman is No. 7 and Acalanes is No. 9. St. Mary’s Stockton has Texas signee Jordan Lee, who is ranked No. 7 nationally by ESPN. She scored 47 points last season against Oakland Tech in the finals loss to the University of Northern California. Cardinal Newman returns Kate Shutt (15.2 points per game) and could bring in Brazilian transfer Taissa Queiroz, who has college offers from California, St. Mary’s University and San Diego State.
