HARTFORD — On Sunday, the Hartford Police Department participated in its annual Shop with a Cop (SWAC) event. SWAC event held at the Hartford Walmart last Saturday.
Shop with a Cop is an annual event where children are selected through referrals from various social service agencies throughout the county. Donated gift cards are given to each child, and the children, with the help of officers, select Christmas gifts for their families. This program provides an opportunity for children to experience the personal rewards of giving to others, and provides law enforcement with an opportunity to connect with youth in the community.
Chief Scott McFarlan took to social media Thursday to thank everyone involved in the event. According to the post, generous donations of time and funds have made this year’s event a huge success. The event was attended by 17 of his family members, a total of 85 family members. We accommodated families of all sizes, from a family of two to his family of nine. In addition to Hartford police officers assisting the children, Hartford Police Department troopers, Wisconsin State Patrol troopers, and members of Public Safety Cadet Post 9910 were also on hand.
Mr. McFarlan thanked everyone involved for thinking of others and helping make the holiday season a little brighter, including donor partners, businesses, and community members who support each year. .
