The Harris County Public Library is working on an on-the-go application after the library’s previous app unexpectedly closed and shut down.
The library system announced last week in a social media post that it would be discontinuing the app. According to the Kingwood Library, the developer of the application terminated the service without prior warning.
According to the Kingwood Library Library, “The app will still be open on your device, but most if not all of its most useful features will be disabled.”
Currently, the library is encouraging people to use the website while collaborating with another developer to create new apps.
Library officials said Tuesday that work is underway on a replacement app, but because the app is still in its early stages, they could not provide details or a deadline for adding the new app.
The HCPL On the Go app allows library patrons to digitally check out books, access an online catalog of magazines, movies, and research articles, find events at their local library, and manage their library account. We have provided options for you. People can also now connect directly with librarians and ask questions 24/7.
All of these features, including 24/7 help chat, are available on the Harris County Public Library website.
This termination does not affect other partner library apps such as Libby, Kanopy, Beanstack, and Newsreader.
