halloween walk
The annual Halloween Walk at Sanborn Park will be held October 28th from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“The Halloween Stroll is an annual event that we have provided to our community for over 30 years,” said Brittany Bezulchik, marketing and communications coordinator for the Port Huron Recreation Department. “We encourage anyone who would like to dress up in costume and collect candy from local businesses and organizations to join us. This year, more than 30 groups will be decorating and handing out candy, including cider and donuts from Chef Shell’s Restaurant and Catering. We look forward to the event featuring a petting zoo, craft giveaways, and a trackless train ride for adults and children alike.”
Bezulchik’s role with the City of Port Huron is to promote Parks and Recreation Department events and programs, including the Halloween Walk. She is also the in-house photographer for the recreation department.
“Katty Gardner has been planning this year’s Halloween Stroll since August,” Bezulchik said. “She does a great job and has planned the past five Halloween walks for the Port Huron Parks and Recreation Department.”
Bezulchik said there were 692 participants in 2022, with 573 people registering before the event and 119 paying on the day of the event.
“These numbers only include people who collected candy at the event,” she said. “We have even more trick-or-treating family members and friends joining us on the walk.”
So far, she said, 264 participants have registered for the 2023 event, and organizers expect close to 700 trick-or-treaters on the day of the Halloween walk. It is said that there is
“We had 1,345 people interested in the walk event on Facebook, and the event is getting a lot of attention,” she said.
Bezulchik said the Halloween walk is one of the most well-attended events in the recreation department, and the trackless train is popular with many people.
“I personally love this Halloween trick-or-treat event because of the setting,” she said. “It takes place in the woods of Sanborn Park. It’s so beautiful to walk through the park with the leaves changing colors. This event is perfect for not only experiencing the park, but also spending time with friends and family. It’s a great way to show off your personality and express yourself. I also love seeing the creativity, such as the displays and costumes that groups create. Dressing up is a great way to show off your personality and express yourself.”
She said organizers were “very grateful” to the organizations and local businesses participating in the event.
“They provide candy to hundreds of trick-or-treaters,” she said. “We are so happy to have local businesses and organizations providing a fun and safe event for the community to enjoy.”
“We would also like to thank our sponsors Union Properties LLC, Great Clips of Marysville, St. Clair County Parks and Recreation, PJ Wallbank Springs Co., and Advia Credit Union for sponsoring this event. I would like to thank you,” she added.
Bezulchik said people are encouraged to register early for the Halloween walk to receive a discounted rate. Residents of Port Huron and the townships of Port Huron, Fort Gratiot, Clyde and Barthill will pay $8 per trick-or-treater if they register by Oct. 27. Nonresidents who register by Oct. 27 will pay $10 per trick-or-treater.
Same-day registration is also available at parks and recreation trailers during the event for an additional $12 fee. Adults accompanying children do not need to register unless they are collecting candy.
If you apply early, you can specify your time slot and register. Because it is a large event, the Recreation Department will stagger groups of trick-or-treaters every 30 minutes to reduce wait times.
