NotebookLM, Google’s experimental AI-powered note-taking app, is now widely available in the US. The company says it has also added several new features and is “starting using” Google’s Gemini Pro AI model to “help with document understanding and inference.”
NotebookLM can already summarize documents you import into the app, come up with important points, and answer questions about your note-taking sources. But now Google is also adding ways to convert notes into other types of documents. Select all the notes you want to include, and NotebookLM will automatically suggest formats like outlines and study guides. However, Google says you can also instruct his NotebookLM to convert your notes into the format of your choice, such as email, script outline, newsletter, etc.
Additionally, NotebookLM will start providing recommended actions based on your actions within the app. As an example, according to Google, if a user is writing a note, NotebookLM will automatically “offer tools to polish and refine their prose, or draw from the source based on what the user has just written.” They may also suggest related ideas. Other useful features added to the app include a way to save helpful responses from NotebookLM as a note, a way to share notes with other users, and a way to focus his NotebookLM’s AI on a source of your choice when chatting. And so on.
