Google Essentials is a new app that makes it easy to find and install Google's first-party services on Windows.
Google Essentials lets you “discover and install” Google apps like Play Games, Google Photos, and Google Messages, while Quick Share is curiously not mentioned in the blog, though it does appear in the cover image. This should also apply to the Play Games PC app, Google Drive on desktop, and the messages.google.com PWA.
The app also offers (web) shortcuts to Google Docs, Drive, and Calendar, and a two-month Google One 100GB offer for eligible users.
Google Essentials will be initially available on “all HP Windows consumer and gaming brands: Spectre, Envy, Pavilion, OMEN, Victus, HP brand,” and will soon be available on all OmniBook brands. When Quick Share (formerly Nearby Share) was introduced on Windows last July, Google said it would partner with OEMs to pre-install it. One of the partners named was HP.
You'll now be able to uninstall Google Essentials and other Google apps.
Open Google Essentials from the Start menu and easily switch between your phone and laptop.
Google plans to expand the Essentials app to “more laptops and desktops” in the coming months. No standalone download link was provided, and no UI details were revealed today.
