A Frisco man shot to death outside a Walmart Wednesday night has been identified as a 62-year-old husband and father of two, his family announced.
Dung Doan worked at a local bakery and lived across the street from Walmart, her niece Caitlin Nguyen told KXAS-TV. She described her uncle as “a good man who would never hurt anyone.” Doan immigrated to the United States from Vietnam last year.
“They were really excited to move to the United States to build a new life for themselves and raise their son and send him to college,” Nguyen told KXAS.
Frisco police said Doan was one of two people “randomly shot and killed” Wednesday night in the Walmart area near Preston Road and Hickory Street. Officers responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported hearing gunshots and told dispatchers that at least one person appeared to have been shot.
Police found one victim in the parking lot and a second victim nearby on Hickory Street. Officials said both men had been shot multiple times. Frisco Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where Doan succumbed to his injuries. The other victim is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Frisco Police Department at 972-292-6010.
Doan’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover his funeral expenses.
“If he died of old age or a terminal illness, we would be better prepared for that, but this will never happen,” Nguyen told KXAS.
