Google recently announced that it is bringing a number of features to the Google Workspace app. The new features essentially make it easier to use these platforms on tablets and flip phones.
Foldable phones are rapidly gaining popularity among users, mainly due to their functionality and multitasking capabilities. It also serves as a great replacement for your PC, especially when you’re on the go. The large screen space of these devices is an added bonus, but in some cases they may not provide the practicality that users need.
According to a spot on Android Central, the new feature will help solve this problem. For example, Gmail users can now open links and attachments side-by-side with emails. According to Google, when you click an attachment or link, your tablet or foldable tablet screen will automatically split in two.
The split-screen display feature is basically designed to improve user productivity by allowing users to open and view links on the same app instead of being redirected to the corresponding app. . However, another report by 9to5Google shows that YouTube and Google Docs links launch in the corresponding apps.
It’s reminiscent of Microsoft Edge’s split screen feature.
As you may already know, Edge, Microsoft’s Chromium browser, has a similar feature called Split Screen. This essentially serves the same purpose as the new Gmail feature, except it’s browser-based.
Lately, we’ve seen Microsoft include some great features in this feature, including the ability to drag and drop tabs to open them side-by-side with another web page or vertical layout.
Google also gave Gmail users a great feature that allows them to respond to emails using emoji reactions. However, the additional drawback to this is that it is limited to Gmail users only. If you try to use this feature when replying to an email from an Outlook user, it will not work. Instead, emoji reactions are sent as standard emails.
