The City of Santa Maria will be offering free shower heads to Santa Maria Water customers this month.
”The goal is to encourage people to replace old showerheads with more water-efficient, lower-flow showerheads, conserving water, an extremely valuable resource in the Santa Maria Valley.” Business Manager Shad Springer explained.
He said the program is a reminder to residents to make every drop count.
“We’ve had years of abundant water resources, and today they’re a little above average,” he told KCLU. “But in California, it’s gluttony or starvation. “We always encourage them to make it a way of life.”
“This is also an opportunity. If you use less water, your water bill will be cheaper. So not only will you save a valuable resource, but you’ll also keep some money in your pocket.” Springer he said.
Eligible customers can receive up to two new low-flow rated Watersense® showerheads in exchange for their old showerhead. Also, per household he can receive one water saving kit (while supplies last).
To participate, customers can drop off up to two old showerheads to the Department of Public Utilities’ management office at the Santa Maria Regional Landfill, 2065 East Main Street. Customers must contact the Public Works Department in advance at (805) 925-0951 extension 7270, Monday through Friday.
