Traveling with kids can be expensive and the bills can add up quickly, so here's a plan for a free family-friendly itinerary at local museums.
The Dossin Great Lakes Museum will be open with special holiday hours on Labor Day from 1pm to 5pm, and even better, admission is free.
On Fridays, admission to the Cranbrook Institute of Science is free from 10am to 10pm. On the third Thursday of every month, admission to the Cranbrook Institute of Science is free from 5pm to 8pm and admission to the Cranbrook Art Museum is free from 11am to 8pm.
Celebrate the “Kresge at 100: A Century of Impact, a Future of Opportunity” exhibit with free admission to the Detroit Historical Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Michigan History Center in Lansing, Michigan, offers a three-story tour that begins with Michigan's Native American Anishinaabe people and continues through the mid-20th century. The museum's hands-on exhibits provide an interactive look into life and industry of the time, and kids can wander from wilderness to copper mines to classrooms. The Michigan History Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for youth ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under. The centre is open on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm and admission is free.
