If you are looking to start your journey into astronomy, please consider this. The Celestron AstroMaster 90AZ telescope is currently $98 — But it’s not an Amazon Prime Day event — this deal actually comes from Walmart. (And it appears to be from Walmart itself, not from a third party seller). Each retailer seems to display a different “used to” price, but Celestron’s website currently sells him for $319.95, so this is a huge discount.
With a 90mm aperture, this telescope is an excellent choice for beginners who want to discover the wonders of the night sky, observe the moon, and even search for galaxies and nebulae.
I have not reviewed the 90AZ yet, but I previously reviewed the Celestron AstroMaster 70AZ. This is a similar beginner’s telescope with a shorter focal length. If you’re looking for a clearer, brighter, more detailed view of the night sky, the 90AZ is an attractive option. It lets in 65% more light than the 70AZ, making it an easy choice to enhance your stargazing experience, especially considering the current discounts.
This kit comes with two eyepieces: 20mm (50x magnification) and 10mm (100x magnification), full-height tripod, erect image star diagonal lens, StarPointer red dot finderscope, smartphone adapter, and Bluetooth remote control Includes a free download of Starry Night Basic Edition astronomy software for interactive sky simulations.

Main Specifications: This telescope has pretty good specs for beginner to all-round use. Its 1000 mm focal length makes it ideal for viewing Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons, galaxies, and nebulae. If you are interested in astrophotography, this focal length is for you. The 90mm aperture lets in ample amount of light for improved visibility. Weighing in at 12.4 pounds (5.6 kg), it’s not the lightest, but it’s definitely manageable for most users.
consensus: I think this is a great starting point and will move beyond beginner status once you progress, but for under $100 this is a steal.
Purchase if: They buy it for kids who are interested in astronomy and don’t want to spend too much money in case they can’t continue with the hobby.
Please do not purchase if: This model doesn’t have GoTo technology, so if you want something with a little more punch than a traditional scope, look elsewhere.
Alternative model: The Celestron Inspire 100AZ is a solid step up from the AstroMaster 90AZ and also features a smartphone mount, making it suitable for basic astrophotography. However, if you want something more powerful to last you for a while, the Celestron NexStar 4SE is for you, with serious power and GoTo.
