A Florida resort canceled an event scheduled for Saturday for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to commemorate the third anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, and its purpose He claimed that he was not informed about this. .
At the event, Republicans from Kissimmee, Florida (a town outside Orlando) were invited to join Mr. Greene and receive signed copies of his recently published memoir, “MTG.”
Westgate Resort released a statement Thursday saying the event had been canceled.
“Please be advised that Westgate was not informed of the purpose of this event when approached to host an autograph session,” the resort said in an emailed statement. “This event has been canceled and will no longer be held at our resort.”
The event, sponsored by the Osceola County Republican Party, was scheduled to take place Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $45 to $1,000, according to the event’s website.
Attendees can purchase a Super VIP pass to receive a private briefing with Ms. Greene, a VIP pass for a photo with the congresswoman, or general admission tickets to the “Celebrating Republican Women” event.
According to event details, super VIP members were invited to “an exclusive private briefing on J6 and DC in a closed session” with Green.
“This is a rare opportunity to connect with leading figures who believe in government working for the people,” the event text said. “Join us in meaningful discussions about the future of our country.”
Last fall, Greene published a revealing book about how she rose to fame as one of the nation’s most prominent far-right politicians and an ardent supporter of former President Trump.
Florida Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) on Wednesday criticized Greene for choosing to attend the now-canceled event.
“Also in Florida, the local Osceola County Republican Party is hosting a ‘Memorial Day’ event to commemorate January 6th, with Marjorie Taylor Greene appearing as a ‘special’ guest,” Eskamani said. wrote. post on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter Wednesday. “When I first saw it, I really thought this was a joke.”
