At approximately 12:20 a.m. Monday, the Cayuga County 911 Center dispatched firefighters to a report of a commercial fire at the Auburn Walmart.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered moderate smoke coming from the front of the store, particularly the grocery store side.
Officials with the Auburn Fire Department said a rapid and coordinated response was launched to determine the source of the fire and deal with it.
Firefighters began a search operation and discovered that the cause of the fire was in the restaurant area of āāthe store.
Thanks to the quick and professional efforts of responding firefighters, fire damage was limited to the area where the fire occurred and Walmart was able to reopen the following morning.
The fire department also thanked the Auburn Police Department, Auburn City Ambulance, and New York State Police for their assistance.
Cooperative efforts between these agencies played an important role in mitigating the impact of the fire and ensuring public safety, officials added.
