Five days after the shooting outside the Frisco Walmart, no suspects have been arrested and no information has been released.
The family of 20-year-old Zachary Rowe is still stunned by what happened last Wednesday.
The former Army private was leaving his job at the Frisco Walmart off Preston Road and Hickory Street when he was accosted by a man asking for cigarettes, his family said.
The man then pulled out a gun and demanded his wallet. Zach handed it over, but his family said he was shot twice in the back. He called her sister, who also arrived at the scene at about the same time as police.
“Everything was running through my head. All the fears you might have,” said sister Morgan Rowe.
Lowe underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder and part of his intestine that was pierced by the bullet, and is currently recovering in hospital. His family wants him to come home to celebrate his 21st birthday.cent Birthday next week.
“We are so thankful and feel very lucky that he is still alive,” Morgan said.
Dung Doan, 62, was also shot dead in the incident. Frisco police said the man died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Doan’s family told NBC 5 that the father of two moved to the United States from Vietnam last year to start a new life. He was walking to his nearby home after going to Walmart that night.
Zach’s family believes Doan may have unintentionally startled the robber as he passed, giving Zach time to turn around and flee.
“It definitely saved my son’s life,” said his father, Denny Rowe.
The Lowes are now focused on mourning the loss of Doan’s loved ones and recovering from his illness.
“My son is a strong person. He’ll persevere, but there’s definitely a side to him that I’ve never seen before that is scared,” Denny said.
They have set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical bills. Zach doesn’t have insurance and won’t be able to work until he recovers from surgery.
They are joining Frisco police in asking the public to come forward with information to help catch those responsible.
“This suddenly happened to him, and this person is still out there. This person is dangerous and could cause further harm,” Morgan said.
