Homecoming weekend at Indiana University is one of the busiest times of the year, with graduates from all over the world returning to campus. Looking for a way to get involved in some fun? Here are this year’s events:
Homecoming weekend begins with the Homecoming Parade on Woodlawn Avenue on October 20th at 5:30 p.m. During the parade, students and alumni will line Woodlawn Avenue from 1 p.m.th and 17th street. The parade will feature bands, cheerleaders, drill teams and floats.
Erin Whistler, senior associate director of student engagement for the IU Alumni Association, said the IUAA will not cancel the parade unless the weather is dangerous. If the IUAA has to cancel the parade due to lightning or other hazardous weather, it will not be rescheduled. Vissler said if rain is expected on Oct. 20, participants should bring their own ponchos, towels and blankets.
Immediately after the Homecoming Parade, fans will get an inside look at IU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams at Hoosier Hysteria. This event will be held at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on October 20th from 7:30pm. Participants can participate in various competitions and meet basketball players and coaches of the season. Men’s basketball head coach Mike Woodson and women’s basketball head coach Terry Moren will also address the crowd during the event. Admission is free, but organizers are encouraging fans to donate non-perishable food items to one of the Hoosier Hills Food Bank collection bins at the start of the event.
Neil Marshall Alumni Club Alumni Association
Neil Marshall Alumni Association celebrates 26th anniversaryth Homecoming reunions will be held at various locations on campus on October 20th from 6:00 p.m. The reunion begins with a block party on Eagleson Avenue hosted by the Neil Marshall Black Cultural Center with an alumni meet-up, live music, and a fish fry.
Neil Marshall alumni and students will also be able to attend the “Crimson Carpet, Black Tie” banquet and awards ceremony to be held in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. After the banquet, guests can attend an afterparty with music and dancing in the IMU Solarium.
Hoosier Huddle Homecoming Tailgate Party
The IU Alumni Association will host a tailgate party at 9 a.m. Oct. 21 at the DeVault Alumni Center prior to the Homecoming football game. Located directly across from Memorial Stadium, it’s a fun way to start your game day. There will be food, entertainment and other festivities.Attendees must: Reregister You have until October 11th to participate.
Jerry Seinfeld, the award-winning comedian known for his sitcom “Seinfeld,” will perform two shows at IU Auditorium on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Seinfeld will be performing his latest stand-up routine for IU’s audience. Tickets start at $57 and can be purchased below. IU aAuditorium website.
The Jacobs School of Music’s Opera and Ballet Theater will present “La Finta Giardiniera” (The Gardener) on Oct. 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center. This performance depicts the protagonist Violante and her servant trying to escape from Belfiore, Violante’s girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. The two disguise themselves as gardeners and live in the house of the mayor of a small town. Tickets start at $10 for students and $15 for community members and can be purchased below. IU vs. Rutgers football game
The culmination of Homecoming weekend is the Homecoming football game. IU will play Rutgers at Memorial Stadium on October 21st at 12:00 p.m.There is Discount ticket and parking set IUAA members can purchase through the IU Athletic Ticket Office.
