Events & Special Projects Coordinator is a new position approved by City Council

To this end, the City of Cathedral City has appointed Cristina Velazquez as Events and Special Projects Coordinator, a new position approved by the City Council as part of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 biennial budgets. Did.
Velasquez will join the city’s communications and events department, which will be managed by Ryan Hunt, the city’s communications and events manager.
She began working with the city on October 23, 2023.
Velasquez has dedicated his life to service and improving the community. A proud graduate of her local Cathedral City High School, she has worked in the education field for over 16 years, holding a wide range of roles in both K-12 and universities. Although she has extensive experience in both education and curriculum development, in recent years she has specialized in student leadership development, student and community activities, and event planning. She stands as a passionate advocate for her social and community programming, and she has held leadership positions throughout the Valley at Coachella.

Beyond her roles as a K-12 educator, director of student activities, and university lecturer, Christina’s personal journey is also a notable accomplishment. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from California State University, San Bernardino in 2019. Her groundbreaking paper delves into the complex relationship between Spanish as a heritage language and identity, exploring how these factors influence student growth, success, and well-being. Combining this research with her understanding of the experiences shared by many students in the Coachella Valley, she believes in shaping and contributing to the city’s role in building community among all residents. Velasquez’s lifelong dedication to education, service, and community improvement continues to be an inspirational and transformative force, enriching the lives of those she touches.
Regarding his connection and commitment to the Coachella Valley, Velasquez says that connection spans both the personal and professional realms. “I grew up within its borders and am proud to be a CCHS graduate. I know this community because it is where I played sports as a child. The local library is where I fell in love with reading. While spending my formative years here, I was able to watch the Cathedral City grow and mature into what it is today. Having grown up in and worked as an educator in local schools, I have a unique perspective that is committed to contributing to the success of everyone, from students and their families to business owners and all the community organizations that make this city thrive.
