GRAND RAPIDS, MI — As fall deepens and the leaves continue to change colors, you may be anticipating colder temperatures ahead.
That’s why the West Michigan Tourism Association is offering ideas for events this weekend so you can get out while the weather is still nice.
Binder Park Zoo Zoo Tailgate
Attendees can join a “zoo-style” tailgate party and cheer on their favorite team while embarking on an adventure exploring wildlife. People can test their creativity by entering a wild coloring contest with a chance to win a family pass to the zoo. For those looking for some friendly competition, Snow Leopard Lawn offers cornhole games. There are TVs throughout the zoo, so you won’t miss out on your team’s score. Participants can also visit their favorite animals while participating in other activities within the zoo.
Date: October 21st and 22nd
Go Kart Casquette Racing at High Caliber Karting & Entertainment
High Caliber Karting & Entertainment will host the first-ever go-kart casquette race. Those interested in participating can register in advance to join a team to try their hand at building and decorating a coffin to wrap around a go-kart during the Franken Monster Body Dash. Here’s how it works: You and your team will take the coffin case from High Caliber and use your creativity to transform it into an unforgettably beautiful masterpiece. They can then return to racing on October 27th. Even if you don’t participate in the race, you can still participate in the festival through costume contests, karaoke, watching games, and more.
Date: October 27th
Manistee Ghost Ship in Milwaukee SS City
Attendees will have the opportunity to ride the Manistee Ghost Ship, located on the grounds of the historic SS City Milwaukee. This experience is more than a haunted house, it’s a fundraising event that promises a night to remember. The ghost ship has her five “terrifying” decks with “chilling” surprises and takes approximately 25 to 45 minutes to sail. New this year, the Ghost Ship will also host a Kids/Scary Pants Night on Halloween (October 31st) from 5pm to 9pm. This event is open to all ages. People can adventure around the ship and enjoy candy.
Date and time: Friday and Saturday nights in October
