JONESBORO, Tenn. (WJHL) – A few months after purchasing a historic building, Carol and Curtis Johnston are once again welcoming guests back to their Eureka Inn.
This inn was built in 1779 and is part of Jonesboro’s history. Town officials said they are excited about the inn as a way to bring visitors back to town.
“Eureka has been in the heart of downtown Jonesboro for quite some time,” said Cameo Waters, director of tourism and Main Street for the Town of Jonesboro. “So we’re very excited to reopen it and welcome all visitors to the city and invite them to stay here.”
The Johnstons held an open house Saturday morning and invited the public to tour the building.
“The real value here is what we’re doing today,” said Eureka Inn co-owner Curtis Johnston. “The whole town is here. We’ve had people come from out of town. This is the reward. So for me, the process has been long and difficult, but the reward is completely worth it.”
The Johnstons rebranded the building as the Eureka Inn and Event Center. They said this change would help show the public what they can offer.
“We’re open to the community for special events,” said Eureka Inn co-owner Carol Johnston. “The event center will be open for special dinners, baby showers, weddings, maybe church retreats, any event that the community would like to come and share in person.”
Although the building is seen by visitors as an inn and event center, the inn plays a large role in the Johnston family’s daily life.
“This is our home,” Curtis said.
The Johnston family lives on the second floor of the inn with their three dogs. The Johnstons live in the building and say they look forward to welcoming guests into their home.
“And we don’t want you to feel like just a guest,” Carol said. “We would like to welcome you into our home and take care of you as much as you want. Or we can leave you alone. But who would want to do that?” ”
