Held each September in New York City, UNGA brings together heads of state and government officials to discuss pressing international issues such as sustainable development, gender equality, and pandemic preparedness. Climate Week NYC will be held in parallel and in conjunction with his UNGA, bringing together diverse business leaders, politicians, and civil society representatives to accelerate climate action.
ELC is a recognized partner of the United Nations Foundation, and on September 18, the two hosted an evening reception themed “Access and Inclusion: Promoting Equality in an Emerging Technology Era.” The conversation focused on the “significant disparities in women and girls’ access to digital tools” and the critical need for safer online spaces. They reported how the widening digital divide is a persistent cause of gender inequality around the world, particularly in rural areas.
ELC says the digital gender gap speaks directly to its core values. “As a woman-founded company with an innovative research and development (R&D) department, ELC has championed the cause of empowering women in STEM fields for more than 75 years. Today, our six global innovations The centers are all led by women.”
At the opening ceremony of Climate Week New York City, ELC Chief Sustainability Officer Nancy Mahon took to the stage to explore and discuss the obstacles to measurable climate action and challenges related to global security and climate.
