Educational innovation through every challenge
Since 1876, the Beverly School for the Deaf has opened its doors to communication.
The Children’s Communication Center/Beverly School for the Deaf is one of the first schools for the deaf in the country. The school currently operates multiple specialized academic programs to support individuals with learning and communication needs. “The Children’s Communication Center serves children who have complex communication needs but are not hard of hearing,” said Christina Gulati, chief program officer. “And Beverly School for the Deaf is our program that serves students who have communication needs and some degree of hearing loss.” “We serve children whose needs cannot be met elsewhere. I believe it is playing a role in bridging the gap between the two countries,” says Gulati. “They may have physical needs…or they may have just moved here from another country and have never been to school before. If they don’t, they often don’t go to school. “These challenges may be daunting, but schools won’t last a century and a half without some pretty creative solutions.” visited several classes at the school.

“I think we are filling a gap for children whose needs cannot be met elsewhere,” Gulati says. “They may have physical needs…or they may have just moved here from another country and have never been to school before. Because if you don’t, a lot of times you don’t go to school. To school.”
These challenges may be daunting, but without some pretty creative solutions, schools won’t survive a century and a half. We observed several classes at the school.
