Positions currently open for nomination
CEAs may be eligible to elect up to 30 state representatives to the NEA RA in 2020. Descriptions of the vacant positions are as follows:
Category 1 Statewide Representative/State Representative: 15 positions (term: 2 years)
Category 1 Overall/Minority Issues: 4 positions (Term: 2
year)
In these categories, active classroom teachers (membership type AC-1) or NEA life members (membership type AC-7) enrolled in a local chapter are eligible to serve in these positions.
Aspiring educators: 1 person (term: 1 year)
Only teaching candidates who are members of SEA and NEA are eligible to apply for this position.
Member Unit: 9 positions from specific member units (term: 1 year)
Only active members (membership type AC-1) or NEA life members (membership type AC-7) who are teaching in a CEA regional chapter in one of the 17 membership units may be appointed to these positions. The nine vacant units include E, F, H, J, K, L, M, P and Q.

Category 2 General: 1 position (a fixed-term interim position is open this year)
Candidates for Category 2 General Membership must be active members in supervisory/managerial positions (membership type AC-1) or retired NEA Life Members (membership type AC-7) unless they are also retired NEA members. (NEA Life Membership was a special category eliminated in 1973.) Active Life Members who have not retired from teaching are eligible for Category 2. Retired NEA Life Members (membership type RT-7) or Annual Retired Members (membership type RT-8) are not eligible for Category 2.
