The Wyoming Air National Guard hosted its third annual Discovery Day on Sept. 28, 2023. Discovery Day focuses on inspiring the next generation’s curiosity, creativity and ambition.
This year was a huge success, introducing all aspects of STEM through interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences for more than 1,800 students from Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska.
“Discovery Day gives these kids hands-on opportunities for potential future careers,” said Lt. Col. Varun Purohit, 153rd Wyoming Air National Guard pilot and Discovery Day director. Discovery Day is a collective effort that brings together dozens of local universities, businesses, and government agencies from around the region. Lt. Col. Purohit said this year’s event had 45 different exhibitors participating, each presenting their area of expertise in a fun and engaging way at their own expense.
Just over 200 students attended the first Discovery Day, hosted by the Wyoming Air National Guard. The following year that number increased to 800 students, and this year he had over 1,800 students from 16 different schools participate. “Next year we’re also going to have an air show, so not only will you be able to see all the vendors, but you’ll also be able to see our performers,” said Kodian Moritz, Airfield Manager and Discovery Day Coordinator. please.”
Discovery Day’s success is defined by its mission to inspire, educate, and guide youth toward fulfilling futures. The hope and goal is that young participants leave with newfound interests and aspirations.
