In recent decades, the Dutch horticulture sector has built an international reputation for its technological solutions to major societal challenges such as a growing world population, climate change and the demand for local food production and green spaces. Controlled environment agriculture, including high-tech greenhouses, allows the Netherlands to make a unique contribution to efficient and sustainable systems both in the Netherlands and abroad.
The film “CEA” was commissioned by Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials in collaboration with AVAG | Greenhouse Technology Center and GreenTech. The video (in English) shows how CEA is being applied around the world using Dutch technology.
CEA means applying different technological solutions, such as high-tech greenhouses in the Netherlands, to grow the tastiest fruits and vegetables and the most beautiful flowers and plants. In a controlled environment, growers can create the perfect climate for their crops. As a result, they can achieve higher yields on a much smaller area with less environmental impact. To achieve climate neutrality by 2040 and net-zero emissions of nutrients and crop protection products by 2030, CEA is being deployed to feed urban areas in the Netherlands, Europe and other parts of the world, making them greener and healthier. In this way, horticultural techniques and knowledge contribute to health and well-being.
