University of Indianapolis Associate Professor of Social Work/MSW Field Director Lynne Shaw, PhD, MSW, LCSW, LCAC Editor, has been named the 2023 Region 7 Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers Indiana Chapter (NASWIN) ).
Region 7 consists of Tipton, Madison, Hamilton, Boone, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, and Morgan counties. The Social Worker of the Year Award is an annual award given to a social work professional who has demonstrated excellence in social work practice and involvement with her NASW and other professional, civic, and community organizations.
Dr. Shaw was nominated for her continued efforts and dedication to assisting students, faculty, and social workers and supporting them as they strive toward their goals.
“This award represents the continued efforts of the social work profession to affirm and support each other,” said Dr. Shaw. “Being recognized means that my work, especially in social work education, is being recognized. I am very honored and honored to be recognized throughout the state of Indiana through the Indiana National Association of Social Workers. I have a strong feeling.”
Dr. Shaw graduated from the UIndy School of Business with an Associate of Legal Assistant degree and has been a social work practitioner for over 30 years. This is her ninth year teaching social work at UIndy.
“After all these years, I really enjoyed working at UIndy at this stage in my career,” she said.
UIndy offers social work programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. In order for a student to call themselves a social worker, they must pass a national certification exam. These professional degrees prepare students for these exams through on-the-job education, practicum, or internships.
“As part of my role, I am the Director of MSW Field Education and enjoy working with students in the area of professional development. I enjoy watching students engage in fieldwork alongside experts. It’s rewarding to see them, many of whom receive job offers after completing their apprenticeships,” Dr. Shaw said.
