The Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club welcomed John Burrows at its October meeting. He is a candidate for the 20th Congressional District. It was Burroughs’ second visit to Tehachapi. He proudly announced that he had received recognition from the Dolores Huerta Foundation. He introduced Brian Beltran, a campaign organizer and Democratic community organizer.
Club president Yvette Benton thanked members who helped pick up trash along Tucker Road and Valley Boulevard in October. An ongoing project is a canned food drive for the Tehachapi Humanitarian Relief Group. Donations can be made at Kelsey’s Restaurant. The club also plans to participate in Trunk-or-Treat and Tehachapi Hometown Christmas and is collecting items for these events.
On Dec. 16, the club will work with the Kern Democratic Women’s Organization to lay wreaths on the graves of veterans buried at Bakersfield National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America is a national program honoring fallen veterans. To date, club members have donated more than $600 toward the purchase of wreaths.
The club meets on the first Thursday of each month at Kelsey’s Restaurant. Join us for a dinner/social hour at 5pm, followed by a meeting at 6pm. Visit his webpage at tehachapidemocrats.com.
