“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” listening event at Barrel
Capitol Hill’s Whiskey Bar wasn’t the first party to commemorate Taylor’s re-recording, but in July Burrell was one of the first to offer a midnight preview of “Speak Now.” We then organized a free party in the basement, but the demand for tickets was so high that the party was spread across both floors. This time, Burrell is charging a ticket ($13 a pop, Swifties take note) that includes a Taylor-themed cocktail, a friendship bracelet, and a take-home polaroid of the album’s original cover. There is. The needle drops in the middle of the night. Regular tickets are sold out, but Burrell will be selling a few “Last Call” tickets for $19.89 at midnight before the party. 8pm $13.
“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” listening event at As You Are
The LGBTQ+ bar on Capitol Hill asks guests to dress similarly to what they would wear on an Elas tour. So maybe it’s time to wear a pink cowboy hat, sparkly boots, and a fringed jacket. Karaoke begins at 7 p.m., and the evening will include a raffle with prizes including “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” records, CDs and copies of “Folklore.” Expect a friendship bracelet making station and Taylor-themed drinks before the new album plays at midnight. Tickets are sold out, but walk-in space is limited. For those looking to get their celebrations started early, check out As You Are’s Wednesday pre-party. It includes making bracelets and paper airplanes, discounts on wine, and listening to her original album at the end. From 8pm to 2am
Midnight Release Dance Party at Birch & Barley
“Two Paper Planes Flying” and “Wine Soaked Dress” are among the nine signature cocktails available at this Show of Hands pop-up, all named after lyrics from “1989.” Just a few. Head bartender Joe Doten not only traveled for shows on the Elas Tour, but was also the inspiration for the cocktail bar’s themed dance parties, drink menus, and “Swifty Sundays.” The party will be held at 14th Street NW restaurant Birch & Barley and will feature a full drink menu (including non-alcoholic drinks like “Want Who You Want”) leading up to the album release dance. The party starts at midnight. Free from 9pm to 2am.
