Prior to that game, Lanning said they were prepared for Salt Lake City’s noisy environment because of the work both teams have done this season.
“I think it’s going to be a great environment,” Dan Lanning said. “You know, I know they’re loud over there. I know they love their team. So it should be a lot of fun for us.” I think it speaks to the job that was done and the work that we did this year to be in a position to be able to host GameDay there.”
This will be the first time Dan Lanning will coach against Utah since coming to Oregon State. However, the Ducks played the Utes in Eugene last season and won a close game 20-17. It’s expected to be a great matchup as ESPN’s College GameDay will be in the city for an important Pac-12 game.
Utah has had a great season so far despite dealing with some major injuries. His ability to deal with injuries is something Dan Lanning is incredibly impressed with.
“They’ve dealt with a lot of injuries in the past, but I think it’s really great for him to be able to utilize defensive personnel on offense, shuffle positions and utilize offensive linemen at tight end.” Lanning said.
“You know, we’ve all always known that he’s a great coach, but the way he and his staff were able to utilize their talent, you know, at the beginning of the year, I know you talked about the depth of the team, it’s really starting to show. He’s got good depth, but it’s not what they expected when the year started. He utilizes his people in a different way than he did, and he did a great job coaching that group.”

Before the game, Dan Lanning praised Utah’s quarterback. bryson burns.
“I think he’s getting more and more comfortable every week, and as a football guy watching him play, that’s a blessing. The guy plays tough. I mean, he’s getting better at the end of the game. That means they are competing for a tough yardage there.[vs. USC] To put the team in a position to win. He took some big hits, but got up and kept playing. He’s impressive,” Lanning said.
“Like I said, he’s dangerous as a runner. He’s doing a good job passing the ball and getting more efficient every week. They put him in position and He does a great job of utilizing his talents.”
