CLARKSTON – On Wednesday at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Clarkston Police Department responded to a trespassing incident at Walmart. Jeremy Shankle, 46, was found inside the store where he had allegedly trespassed earlier in the day and escalated his violent behavior, threatening to kill employees. Police had issued an initial trespassing notice.
Court documents say that due to concerns about Shankle’s behavior, officers placed him in handcuffs to ensure the safety of everyone involved. A thorough search confirmed there were no hidden weapons. Walmart staff confirmed Shankle’s involvement in an incident in which he allegedly touched a female customer.
Asset protection officers had trespassed on Shankle earlier in the day and raised concerns when Shankle returned looking for him. Shankle had previously threatened the life of an employee, leading to the belief and pursuit of charges that Shankle committed second-degree robbery.
Shankle’s erratic behavior continued during the arrest process, including attempting to disarm a police officer. Despite his protests, the officer read Shankle his Miranda rights.
Upon arrival at the detention center, Shankle’s behavior reportedly remained unpredictable, including blatant threats and destructive behavior inside the detention center. Shankle also claimed that he had contracted the coronavirus and that he had intentionally spat in a police cruiser.
Shankle is charged with second-degree robbery, threatening to kill, harassing bodily harm, attempted third-degree assault and first-degree malicious mischief.
