Walmart's new state-of-the-art headquarters is coming together more and more each day. Driving past the site of the future headquarters campus, it's hard not to get excited. “We're excited about what this is going to bring to our community,” says Brandom Gengelbach, president of the Bentonville Chamber of Commerce. “The opportunities it brings.” The new campus will have 12 office buildings, as well as a fitness center and an enrichment center for children. The entire campus will be 350 acres. The kind of facilities you'd find in a big city. “This is really a game changer,” Gengelbach says. “At the end of the day, I think we're competing for talent as a community, and we want to make sure that our employees have the best environment to succeed both personally and professionally, and this campus exemplifies that.” The Bentonville Chamber of Commerce doesn't have exact numbers to show the estimated economic impact the new Walmart office will generate. But the organization's president says one thing is certain: “From an existing perspective, if you look at the size and scope of the land with what they have, you can see that it's going to be a pretty big impact,” Gengelbach said. The chamber president said that typically, large corporations building these kinds of facilities are closed off from the rest of society. “The development is being done in a way that encourages the community to be a part of it,” Gengelbach said. “So, whether it's a trail that runs through the campus and Bentonville and into other parts of Northwest Arkansas, or retail, or whatever, the doors are open.” 40/29 News reached out to Walmart's corporate communications department on Tuesday afternoon for an official update on the construction progress. We are waiting for a response. According to the company's website, the campus is scheduled to open in phases starting in January 2025.
