The OKC Thunder has built a culture of giving back, and that mindset is a priority for players, veterans and rookies alike.
They’re big stars in the NBA, but it’s become natural to see players in the community.
“At some point, I’d like to go back to my hometown of Minnesota or to the state of Minnesota and do basketball camps for kids in the area,” Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren said.
Community events are often done through the Thunder organization, and in the case of Thanksgiving, Thunder players appreciate donations.
“This city has welcomed me with open arms since I’ve been here, so my main thing has always been to give back,” said Thunder forward Luguentz Dort.
Dort hosted a grocery giveaway at Restore OKC.
“So today we’re going to serve 100 families, which is amazing. We’re so grateful that so many families came out,” said Restore OKC Executive Director Kayleigh Dodson. Stated.
Dort hosted the event through his Maison Foundation.
“My team, my foundation, did something here for Oklahoma City because I’m in a position to do it now,” Dort said.
Jaylin Williams’ father and two brothers came to help with a food giveaway at the Boys & Girls Club in Northeast Oklahoma City.
“We told them we had a little event and they all said they were coming, and everyone drove up today,” Thunder forward Jaylin Williams said.
Williams’ family will be there for Thanksgiving this year, making helping other families even more meaningful.
“I’m just lucky and lucky to be able to spend time with my family. This is one of the first years that my family will be together again for Thanksgiving,” Williams said.
“We want to give back to the community that supports us,” Holmgren said.
There were lots of smiling faces at Chet Holmgren’s foster family dinner.
“It’s great just seeing everyone,” Holmgren said.
Holmgren thanked her family for their support at her event.
“I didn’t get to this point on my own. So many people helped me, and I know I’m in a position now to be able to help others,” Holmgren said. Ta.
“It warms my heart. It means he continues to embrace Oklahoma as much as Oklahoma has embraced him,” said Chet’s mother, Sarah Holmgren.
What dishes will players be looking forward to when they sit down to Thanksgiving dinner?
“My aunt makes this, and it’s like a raspberry marshmallow jelly. It’s crazy,” Holmgren said.
“Oh, gravy on mashed potatoes? No gravy,” Williams said.
“The turkey is great. The macaroni and cheese is always good,” Dort said.
