The Walmart Fire First Responder Recognition Event will be held Monday at 5 p.m. (Montana time) in the Ingram Room of the Clovis Carver Public Library, organizers said.
As previously reported on MyHighPlains.com, Clovis firefighters responded to the Walmart store on North Prince Street around 3:36 a.m. on Sept. 3. When the fire department, ambulance and police arrived on the scene, the store was “in flames” and assistance was called in from many other communities due to the size of the fire.
As noted in previous reports, the Walmart was closed following the fire investigation. Weeks later, 59-year-old Jimmy Gillen was arrested in Lubbock in connection with the fire after warrants were issued that included charges of arson, aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, and being a felon in possession of a destructive device.
At Monday’s awards ceremony, organizers said Clovis Mayor Mike Morris and other officials assisted Clovis Fire Departments during incidents in Bovina, Curry County, Broadview, Cannon Air Force Base, Farwell, Grady, Melrose and other locations. It was announced that various organizations will be recognized for their achievements. , Pleasant Hill, Portales, and Ranchvale.
