MOORHEAD — Clay County is seeking public input on the proposed expansion of two mine projects through an environmental assessment worksheet, a document that fully outlines the environmental impacts of the expansion.
Expansion of green gravel pit
According to a release from the county, residents are being asked to fill out a worksheet and provide feedback on the proposed green gravel pit expansion. The worksheet includes information about the project’s potential environmental impacts, planned mitigation measures, and the business’ regulatory compliance.
The project, operated by RJ Zavoral & Sons Inc., includes expanding an existing gravel mining operation in Hagen Township from 36.4 acres to 50.9 acres.
The county is seeking comment on “the accuracy and completeness of the information, potential impacts requiring further investigation, and the need for an environmental impact report,” the release states.
Readers can find the worksheet online at claycountymn.gov/civicalerts.aspx?aid=924 or at the Clay County Government Center in Moorhead, 3510 12th Ave. S. All comments must be submitted in writing and returned by January 25th.
Richards Gravel Pit Expansion
Richards Gravel Pit is also proposing an expansion, and the county is seeking public input through a separate worksheet.
The Richards Family Partnership wants to expand its gravel mine in Flowing Township from 101.7 acres to 159 acres.
The worksheet contains information about this proposed project’s possible environmental impacts, mitigation efforts, and related regulations.
Readers have between now and Thursday, January 25th to complete the worksheet and provide comments on the depth of information, potential impacts that require further investigation, and the environmental impact report.
This worksheet is available online at claycountymn.gov/civicalerts.aspx?aid=923 or in person at the Clay County Government Center.
Comments for both projects must be received in writing by January 25th. You can email it to plan@claycountymn.gov or mail it to Matt Jacobson, Planning Director, Clay County Planning and Zoning, 3510 12th Ave. S., Moorhead. , Minnesota, 56560.
Our newsroom may report stories under the byline “Staff.” The “Staff” byline is often used when rewriting basic news summaries that come from official sources and require little or no reporting, such as a city press release about a road closure. This byline is sometimes used when a news article has many authors or is created by aggregating previously reported news from different sources. If external sources are used, they will be noted within the story.
