CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – The City of Carbondale receives a $2 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Downtown and Main Street Reconstruction Program for the construction of the first phase of a downtown entertainment and event plaza. I did.
The plaza celebrates entertainment and the performing arts and provides a state-of-the-art performance venue that draws visitors from within the region and beyond.
Carbondale.
The city is inviting the public to participate in a stage name brainstorming session. City leaders will collect submissions for consideration through an online form and welcome ideas and input on naming the entertainment event plaza.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., and the city council will consider the list of submissions and make a final decision.
The new venue will feature a wide variety of bands, groups, performers, artists and more, and local and national talent will be hosted there. The plaza will be rented out to the public for public and private events.
Plaza timeline:
- Phase 1
- It includes a permanent stage, ADA-compliant parking, and a large lawn that can accommodate thousands of guests and numerous events. Once Phase 1 is complete, the community center will be able to host entertainment and performing arts events.
- Phase 2
- It brings additional amenities to the plaza, including: A market activities pavilion with permanent restrooms, sound barriers along the tracks, and accessible seating provides the ability to host ticketed events. Phase 2, which has not yet been funded, will be completed as funding allows.
