Halloween candy scramble: at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1500 Glen Ave., Folcroft, on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. All kids 10 and under are welcome. Rain or shine at Glen and Folcroft avenues. Parking available behind the church. No tricks, just treats!
Wallingford Presbyterian Church’s: annual trunk or treat is Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. at the church, 110 E. Brookhaven Road, Wallingford. The upper parking lot will be filled kids (and adults) in costume and cars, trucks and SUVs decked out with treats. Like to host a trunk? Visit the church website at https://wallingfordpres.org to register. The lot will open at 2 p.m. for set-up. Prizes for best decorated. All should bring canned goods to support local food pantries. The event will be held rain or shine.
The pop-up pumpkin patch: at Christ Church, 104 Nevin St., Ridley Park, is open and ready with rows and rows of many varieties and sizes of pumpkins. The patch is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays until Halloween. All pumpkin sales help the Navajo Native Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico, where they are grown and tended to. Additionally, 20% of the local pumpkin sale proceeds are donated back into the local community. Ten percent will go to the Ridley Park Food Pantry run by United Methodist Church on Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park, and another 10% will go to support the outdoor education program at Eddystone Elementary School. New Hope United Methodist Church: 4020 Concord Road, Aston, will hold Trunk or Treat from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22. The event is free and no RSVP is necessary. Participants are asked to bring a canned good for the Bread of Life Food Pantry. Dining Under the Stars will be held afterward from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and feature dinner, dessert and a hot chocolate bar. Cost is $15 for ages 10 and above and free for those under 10. Holy Spirit Lutheran Church: 2545 Franklin Ave., Secane, will hold a yard sale Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Furniture, kitchen items, tools, toys, athletic items, electronics, home decor, baby items and more will be for sale. St. Gabriel Parish: will host a chicken cutlet dinner at 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the church hall, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood. Cost is $10. On Oct. 21, the St. Gabriel Parish CYO will hold a haunted maze from 7 to 10 p.m. in the church hall. Tickets are $5 for ages 12 and above and $3 for those younger. The snack bar will be open to purchase food and drinks. On Nov 5, the parish will serve a full breakfast from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. in the church hall. Cost is $6. Tickets are now on sale for the Soul Cruisers Show and Dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 in the hall. Cost is $60. Eddystone UMC: and Overcomers TCM will host an active shooter training session presented by the Pennsylvania State Police on Saturday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 11 from 8:30 to 11 a.m.at 733 Saville Ave., Eddystone. Both presentations are free. The “What Would You Do?” seminar is focused on increasing awareness. Refreshments will be served. The Church of St. John The Evangelist: 16 W. Third St., Essington, will hold a spaghetti dinner Oct. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. for takeout only. Norwood United Methodist Church: 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, will hold its annual Kid’s Stuff Consignment and Christmas Corner Sale, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Items will be offered for half-price from noon to 1 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Little Blessings Christian Preschool. The gigantic garage sale: at St John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, is planned for Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sunday Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a major fundraiser for the parish, where those in the community can hunt for treasures at bargain prices. First United Methodist Church of Media: also known as First Church Media, 350 W. State St., Media, distributes food Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. The church’s Clothing Closet mainly takes private appointments, which can be scheduled by calling the church office at 610-566-3172. First United Methodist Church: 350 W. State St., Media, The church is home to the Media Food Bank which serves 75-100 families each week and is supported by individuals, area churches, and local businesses. The food bank is open Thursdays 7-8 p.m. and the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10-11 a.m. The church also serves the community through its clothing closet which is open Thursdays 7-8 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon. The Transition Town Media Free Store is located at First United and serves as a place to donate used items and take (for free) items that can be used or repurposed. First Church offers free beginner yoga classes Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. There is no charge, but donations are welcome.

The Legion of Mary: is a Catholic organization of men and women, who work with the Blessed Mother and Holy Spirit to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, our savior, to the world in various locations and manners. You do need to be a practicing Catholic.
