ST. George — It’s the “season of giving” this year, and Utah Tech’s athletics department is partnering with Findlay Hyundai to host the first-ever “Pantry” event on Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 7 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the Holland Northeast parking lot. Host a food drive.afternoon
In addition, Utah Tech will hold its 6th annual holiday Trailblazer Nation Tree Lighting Celebration at Holland Centennial Plaza on Wednesday from 5 p.m., and donations to the food drive will also be made during the event. It is expected to be accepted.
All members of the Utah Tech campus and the St. George and Washington County communities are encouraged to donate canned goods and non-perishable foods, toiletries and other personal hygiene items to fill the University’s Blazer shelves, according to a news release. Pioneer student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators will volunteer throughout the day to collect donated items, along with other campus, community and Findlay Hyundai representatives.
The Blazer Food Pantry, in partnership with the Utah Food Bank, was created to reduce student food insecurity while increasing healthy food options and improving student retention efforts, according to a news release. That’s what it means. The pantry is open to all Utah Tech students, faculty and staff and provides assistance in meeting basic nutritional needs.
Over the past six months, Blazer Pantry has distributed more than 11,200 pounds of food to members of the college campus community in need.
