VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Catholic Charities of Broome County will be stationed outside a Walmart in Vestal next week to collect donations of Thanksgiving supplies to feed the community.
Catholic Charities is once again holding its annual Thanks4Giving Food Drive to raise funds and food donations for local families this holiday season.
The organization has a goal of collecting 3,700 donated turkeys this year. So far, the turkey transport operation has received just over 700 turkeys and hopes to receive about 3,000 more by the end of the day Friday.
Hannah Burge, program manager for Catholic Charities, said they will accept anything that can be donated, including roasted turkeys, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce and other fillings, as well as monetary donations.
“One of the things I think about is that single moms might tell their kids they’re not going to Thanksgiving dinner, but with events like this and turkey drives, they can bring their families together. Make sure your children have a Thanksgiving meal. So it’s really rewarding,” Burge said.
The group parks their RV right outside the Walmart in Vestal.
Burge said they are always looking for volunteers to staff the RV and take donations.
Burge says if you stop by and don’t have a representative, you should see a labeled cart where you can donate.
The drive will run every day this week until it ends on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
